Partner: Little Waves Coffee Roasters

Areli Barrera Grodski and Leon Grodski Barrera founded Cocoa Cinnamon in their mom’s kitchen in 2010. In 2017, Little Waves Coffee Roasters was born as the roasting and wholesale arm accompanying Cocoa Cinnamon. This Latina co-owned and women forward business calls Durham, North Carolina home. They embody diversity in all aspects of their work, and every coffee and location seeks to honor the depths of global history.

Their Story

Their unique approach to coffee is quite beautiful. Many roasters and retailers solely concentrate on the quality of the product, but Cocoa Cinnamon equally considers the customer experience. Like their coffee, their history, beliefs, and passions are extremely rich. Expect a warm, welcoming environment and feelings of wonder and discovery within one of the Cocoa Cinnamon shops. Each shop displays a multitude of art installations that reflects numerous cultures.

The coffee itself is inspired by a multitude of people, cities, and languages. Each roast and drink is named after a particular place that inspires wonder. Through coffee, they aim to cultivate human connection with strong ties to both the present and past. By entering a coffee shop or having a cup, customers instantly connect with one another and another culture. Simply put, the shops and drinks remind a customer of the “beauty and possibility of humanity.”

Sustainability

Like GOffee, Little Waves makes noteworthy efforts to be sustainable. They prioritize the reduction of energy usage, and they consistently consider the bi-products of their services and operations. For example, their packaged goods come in 60% compostable bags, and they send their waste from roasting to local gardens (52,172 pounds worth in 2019!). Likewise, the roasting machine they use boasts 80% energy savings compared to a standard roaster. In short, simple solutions go a long way.

We know the mountains of North Carolina are far away from the Big Apple, but now GOffee is bringing Little Waves’ coffee to you! Through this partnership, our customers can try their blend called “Don’t Forget to Look at the Moon.” It has a medium body with pleasant flavors of milk chocolate, caramel, and apricot. This coffee will surely be a fan favorite, and we would love for you to experience the magic of Little Waves in your next morning’s cup!
